And So The New Season Starts

November 8, 2015

At the end of my last blog entry I spoke about the up and coming World Championships. These were held in Winterberg Germany. It is suffice to say that I did not do as well as I had hoped and finished 22nd, however this still left me as 2nd ranked in the GB squad. My season could be summed up as one of a great many good points but with still work to be done. The summer ahead needed to be productive. I entered a stage of heavy training, not just in the gym and on the track but …

The Bad the Good and the Possible!

February 23, 2015

So the 2014-2015 season is almost at an end and it has been a bit of a roller-coaster journey so to speak. The first half of the season started off promisingly however I began to train faster than I would race and my results really weren’t reflective of what I knew was achievable. Races in Lillehammer, Winterberg and Konigssee reflected very strong start times with some average overall finishing positions, the one race that did go well was the second one in Konigssee where a field featuring a fair few World Cup sliders was actually at its strongest. A 7th …

The New Season is Underway

October 15, 2014

I’m really excited to finally get back onto the ice in Norway. It feels like a lifetime ago that last season ended! Our programme has made some really big strides forward this summer and with some new coaches on board as well it’s a really exciting time for British Skeleton, and it’ll be great to start the learning process towards trying to qualify for the World Championships this season and fingers crossed the next Olympics in four years time. I have a fair amount of work on personally so the next four years will bring a whole host of challenges …

Looking Ahead

June 15, 2014

So the end of the 2013/14 Season didn’t end quite as well I had hoped! I ended up the 3rd ranked British male but with only two athletes attending I missed out. The two guys selected, Kristan Bromley and Dominic Parsons had a great Olympics and did our men’s programme proud, and needless to say on the Women’s side, well it was our second Gold in Succession brought home by Lizzie Yarnold! The races in the second half of my season taught me a lot, especially with the next 4 years looming ahead with South Korea 2018 the goal. This …

All to play for at midway point!

December 22, 2013

So Christmas is here and as always it heralds the half-way point of our competitive season, a time to reflect on what has happened so far and what is ‘hopefully’ lying ahead! So where have I got to? Igls provided the backdrop for ICC races 1 and 2, and brought with it several personal bests, I smashed my previous best push times and put down a solid enough drive to also have a new downtime PB on the track! My driving was much improved but still had a couple of small errors and the week left me somewhat frustrated, it …

Goodbye Igls Hello Altenberg

December 8, 2013

8th December 2013 The two races at Igls went reasonably well, I would have liked to have done better but I could have done worse. There are a lot of sliders who are new to the Intercontinental Cup and many of them German and Russian. The Russians now have their own track (Sochi) and it seems they have found some fresh sliders, they will be pushing to get the full quota of three sliders at The Olympics. The Germans have also obviously been doing a lot of training on the three tracks they have and over the Christmas period we …
